HAPPY BIRTHDAY COS. Episode 57 (5+7=May 12!)
Today we focus on the 5 R’s – Ready, Read, React, Respond and Recover, created by David Bailey. This process is one that you should practice and improve to help your preparation and reaction to a tennis shot. First, take your Ready steps, then Read the racquet or the ball (direction or spin), React by turning your shoulder, Respond with adjusting steps to hit the ball, and then Recover after your shot. You could transfer the 5 R’s to various activities in your daily life. While walking or riding a bike (ready), you read that another walker or biker person (especially one not wearing a mask) is coming toward you. React by pivoting, respond by moving to one side for social distancing and then recover to your original path. Practice the 5 R’s in your head by visualizing a point during your match and you’ll be prepared to RETURN to the courts.
