Today, we offer a demonstration of a Dennis Van Der Meer drill called the 10 minute warm up. Judy volleys and Cos will always half volley. The first five are done for one minute each: forehand volley to forehand half volley, back hand volley to forehand half volley, alternate forehand and back hand volleys to forehand half volley, baby lob to baby overhead and then forehand volley, backhand volley and overhead, all directed to Cos’s forehand. Then, Cos would advance to net and Judy would hit all forehand half volleys. Next, the half volleyer would repeat with backhands. This is a great drill to warm up quickly and to work on direction and touch. Use a wall if you don’t have a partner. Remember to use your continental grip.
